Bachelor of Pharmacy

Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry is an integral part of pharmacy education which deals with the chemical, biochemical and pharmacological aspects of drugs. As a part of undergraduate teaching and learning, various subjects included are Pharmaceutical Inorganic Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry, and Medicinal Chemistry. It includes study of inorganic, organic compounds, various bio-molecules, medicinal compounds preparation, uses, and pharmacological activities, their synthesis, quality aspects of raw materials and finished products in collaboration with other disciplines of pharmacy. /p>

The separate subject for practical provides extensive and diversified experience to students to perform different experiments from all required areas. Two well furnished laboratories provide the facilities for practical training in pharmaceutical medicinal chemistry including synthesis and structural elucidation of medicinally important compounds, analytical chemistry, organic chemistry and biochemistry with well-designed experiments.

Central Instrumentation room

Instrument room is equipped with the latest analytical instruments, which enables the students to acquire hands-on training on the instruments. It facilitates imparting the practical training to the students in pharmaceutical and analytical chemistry and assists in research work. The laboratory includes sophisticated instruments like HPLC, UPLC, digital flame photometer, UV visible spectrophotometer, Karl-Fischer titrator and photofluorimeter.

Department of Pharmacology

Pharmacology is the scientific discipline evolved in the 19th century as a new biomedical discipline that applied the principles of scientific experimentation to therapeutic contexts. It is the branch which involves the understanding of how a drug deals with the human body and how the human body responds to the drug and hence, improves health and alleviates diseased condition. It is one of the core subjects of biomedical sciences contributing remarkably to other fields of biomedical sciences. Pharmacological studies involve studies of both, beneficial as well as adverse effects of chemical agents on the human body. The department offers courses like Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology and Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacotherapeutics at undergraduate level. Presently there are five well equipped and designed laboratories in Pharmacology department at our institute which involves Human Anatomy and Physiology laboratory with museum, Pharmacology laboratories and Advanced Pharmacology laboratories.

Department of Pharmacognosy

Pharmacognosy is an important branch of pharmacy which deals with the study of structural, physical, chemical, biochemical and sensory characters of natural drugs of plant and animal origin. Pharmacognostical studies involve the history, distribution, cultivation, collection, identification of crude drugs along with preparation, evaluation, preservation and use of herbal & ayurvedic formulations. Major activities includes isolation of bio active phytoconstituents, development of herbal formulations, standardization of herbal raw materials and formulations, study of traditional medicines, phytochemistry of natural products etc. Presently there are three well equipped and designed laboratories of Pharmacognosy department at our institute which involves Pharmacognosy & Phytochemistry laboratories with Crude drug museum, Crude drug charts etc. Laboratory is furnished with all the latest instruments and apparatus required for the pharmacognostical experiments as per the requirements of AICTE and PCI. One Medicinal garden is available at institutional premise with medicinal plants required at under graduate level.

Department of Pharmaceutics

Department has blend of experienced and young dynamic staff with diversified exposure in Pharmaceutical research and industries. It is equipped with sophisticated instruments for development and evaluation of Novel and conventional dosage forms. Department has received funding from various government agencies like AICTE, GUJCOST, DST, etc. Active international and national presence of faculties and students in terms of publications and presentations. Department has spacious laboratories with adequate equipment capable of providing the much-needed technical support for teaching and research. The department has good organizational capabilities with computer facilities and is able to plan, prepare and promote programs for professional pharmacists, community pharmacists and continuing education programs for junior faculty. Department has three well equipped and one advance research PG labs and also containing High tech Microbiology and Industrial Pharmacy lab having fully & semi-automatic equipment.
